Green Plus, a company specializing in smart farms, announced on the 5th that it has signed two youth smart farm contracts worth a total of 5 billion won.

Green Plus will build a greenhouse smart farm that can grow cucumbers and strawberries on an area of 2,717 pyeong and 1,656 pyeong. The contract amounts are 3.2 billion won and 1.8 billion won. The company will plan a smart farm that meets the needs of the ordering party in consideration of the crops, cultivation area, and climate, and will carry out the construction of the smart farm using materials produced in the domestic production process.

The Korean government is creating a smart farm innovation valley and a region-specific lease-type smart farm to foster young farmers who specialize in smart farms. Every year, the Korean government conducts a smart farm youth startup incubation project to help young people without knowledge and experience in smart farming acquire skills through hands-on training to support employment and start-ups. After 20 months of training in agriculture at the Innovation Valley Nursery Center, they can operate a farm of up to 1,200 square meters for three years on a leased, region-specific smart farm, while also raising money for their business.

Green Plus expects the number of contracts to continue to increase as smart farms are activated along with the start-ups of Innovation Valley graduates. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the domestic smart farm market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 15.5%, more than doubling to $491 million (642.7 billion won) by 2025.

An official from Green Plus said, "Youth smart farm contracts have reached about 16 billion won to date, and we expect the number of contracts to continue to increase this year from Sangju to Miryang and Gimje." "We will lead the future of agriculture by supporting customized smart farms and actively supplying them to domestic and foreign markets so that young farmers who start their own businesses can achieve complete success."
